The Tesla Roadster

Have you always hated electric cars because you thought they would be a cross between a golf cart and a carnival ride? Well, some wise entrepreneurs have discovered that we americans might actually be interested in a stylish, high performance, well made, electric car. Click to visit Tesla Motors

For reasons I can not fathom the designers of most electric cars seem to have been pulled from the Japanese cartoon industry or the makers of scandinavian kiddy rides?

The Tesla Roadster

Above is a view of Tesla's Competitors: If your curious, the car on the left is the Kiddy ride. The thing on the right is a new electric "car" called "The Zap!" Oh please make them stop!

But thankfully a new car company has arisen that is promising to produce an electric car for car enthusiast. The founded by will launch it's Tesla Roadster in 2008. This car is hot! It looks as if it just rolled off an Italian raceway and it will out perform any gas gussler on the road. This is Tesla's first car line but they already have other cars in the works and a business plan that may just change how everyone thinks about transportation.

Tesla promises that by using their Tesla created electric motor vs. the standard gasoline engine the driver will have the advantage of 100% torque, 100% of the time. They apparently are correct, because the Telsa roadster quietly demonstrates a 248 hp electric motor, with a range of more than 250 miles, that can accelerate from 0 - 60 in about 4 seconds, plus it has a top speed near 130 mph! Yes... read that again it's correct!

One of the big break throughs from Tesla is the battery technology. They claim a completely dead Tesla battery can be recharged in about 3.5 hours. Which means the average american will only need to recharge the roadster once every couple of weeks. The charger requires no special wiring and can be plugged into any standard 110 AC outlet.

The only downside is the estimated $90,000 price tag. (Yes, I know that is a pretty big downside... but Jeez!) Considering the Tesla Roadster will be a first edition sports car offering a new battery technology, and only the first of many new electric vehicles planned from Tesla Motor Company... that's not too bad! I will have to wait to purchase my Tesla Roadster used on eBay, but I will be eagerly waiting.

Down with Zap!.... Viva la Tesla!
